The protection of consumer is an interdisciplinary and complex area; therefore activities in this area include various ministries, numerous disciplines and institutions and different operators. Consequently, it is of essential importance that all consumer protection bodies, including those in governmental organizations as well as non-governmental organizations, be in line with the national programme and directed towards reaching synergies within the general objectives:
- reaching a high level of consumer protection that is a common denominator of all objectives pursued by consumer protection policy;
- the second, equally important objective, is health and safety of consumers.
A high level of consumer protection and health and safety of consumer are also the constituent elements of a new common EU strategy on health and safety of consumer. Within the indicated general objectives, the 2006 -2010 Resolution on the National Programme of Consumer Protection has the following mutually complimentary and reinforcing priority objectives:
- integration of consumer protection in all policies, having impact on the situation and interest of consumers in the market;
- gradual institutional building and appropriate organisation of consumer protection bodies for efficient implementation of tasks in the field of consumer protection;
- effective implementation of the consumer legislation;
- effective market control of the product safety and protection of economic interest of consumer;
- efficient and accessible public services in the field of consumer protection;
- strengthening the cooperation with non-governmental organizations;
- efficient settlement of consumer disputes by creating public schemes of alternative dispute settlement and
- establishing the European Consumer Center.
